Came to work at 5.00am today and decided to post a new write-up, but was clueless on what to write…..
suddenly from nowhere “poof”! came my colleague and said, “macha, i’m goin out for a smoke, neeyum vaariya” – eventhough that fellar knows that i dun smoke! but thats not the point…

An ingenious topic strike to my mind, courtesy to my friend-Lets write about Smoking – Dhum Adikum Palakem :)

Disclaimer:
This post is primarily focussed at young/adolescent smokers. This write up explains the difference between a fact and a myth. If you feel this insight would in any way undermine your belief in smoking, please close it immediately.

Smoking Habit:The real Deal!

One question always lingers in my mind; Why do people smoke, as in smoke cigarette?
-is it the tension/pressure factor i.e “Velai tension macha, Boss tuppi tharre”
-
or is the peer pressure/ikut cakap kawan i.e “Adi mache, unnum avathe…joka irukum!sorgatheye pakkalam”
-or is it a trend/style/cuba-cuba i.e Kaingels= “Enna mike, dhum adikellena tadak gempaklaaa”

Whatever the reason being now but the end result is surely 99% R.I.P - Period!

Fact Sheet

Worldwide, between 80,000 and 100,000 kids start smoking every day. Approximately one quarter of children alive in the Western Pacific Region* will die from smoking. Smoking related diseases kill one in 10 adults globally, or cause four million deaths.By 2030, if current trend continues, smoking will kill one in six people. Savadi!

Smoking is on the rise in the developing world but falling in developed nations. WHY? because people in developed nations are more educated, better informed and health conscious; but the most importantly they understand that if they don’t stop now, they are in deep shit.

Smoking Essential: Cigarette

Cigarette is French for small cigar, where -ette is the feminine diminutive ending.

‘Cigarette is a product consumed through smoking and manufactured out of cured and finely cut tobacco leaves and reconstituted tobacco, combined with other additives, then rolled or stuffed into a paper-wrapped cylinder (generally less than 120 mm in length and 10 mm in diameter). The cigarette is ignited at one end and allowed to smoulder for the purpose of inhalation of its smoke from the other (usually filtered) end, which is inserted in the mouth. The term cigarette, as commonly used, refers to a tobacco cigarette but can apply to similar devices containing other herbs, such as cannabis.’- Source:Wikipedia

It is also known as ciggies, batang etc in certain quarters of makkals amongst us. hehehe:)

Cigarettes are proven to be highly addictive, as well as a cause of multiple types of cancer, heart & respiratory diseases, circulatory disease and birth defects (which include mental and physical disability). The reason cigarettes being so lethal is because it contains nicotine, an addictive stimulant which is toxic. They deliver smoke to the lungs immediately and produce a rapid psychoactive effect. “Mothe sorgam theriyure mathiri irukum, apperom sorgathiliye irupinggo nejemmave”

Focus Matter : Youths

It is very disturbing to see young teens (aged 12 to 18 ) whom about one in five smokes worldwide. Estimated there between 80,000 and 100,000 children worldwide start smoking every day – roughly half of whom live in ASIA. Evidence shows that around 50% of those who start smoking in adolescent years go on to smoke for 15 to 20 years. In Malaysia, everyday about 45 to 50 teenagers below the age of 18 start smoking and 30% are adolescent boys whom are within the 12 to 18 years old. Peer reviewed studies show teenagers are heavily influenced by tobacco advertising. Tobacco companies are among top 10 advertisers in Cambodia, Philippines, Indonesia, MALAYSIA and Myanmar. Its time to stop the fcukin ads!

Now, focusing on our Indian makke’s~ Refer scenario:
“A young indian boy (age between 13-18 ) with the school attire still on, goes to “kedai runcit or mamak shop” buys a batang and lits it up just in front of you. At that time, i feel like just want to slap the kid! but cant~ “ketekka ‘cool’e pulle ne vanunge”

Yeah, i can hear some of you cursing me after reading this but wtf do i care,I’m relaying this message as my piece of mind…again i dun givva damn! But then again, I’m not against those who smoke’s, Hell- most of my friend’s do, I’m just against those immature young teens who are addicted to a habit that they don’t know the consequences! I repeat again YOUNG TEENS.

The Health

Smoking is the largest preventable cause of disease and premature health. It is the prime factor in heart disease, stroke and chronic lung disease. It is also main cause for the lungs, larynx(dunno what the heck is this),esophagus, mouth, bladder and list goes on…“simpla sonna -kuti kalicha parrunge whole body bungkus than”

Another lethal cause of smoking is Erectile Dysfunction or impotence (in BM is Mati Pucuk) – is the inability to to achieve and maintain an erection sufficient for satisfactory sexual performance. “pocha, vaalkaiye aambel”

So, remember every puff you take now will make you regret later BIG time! HAHAHAHAHAH

An interesting fact, which I’m considering for my next post is smoking among female teens.Studies conducted in 2000 and 2004 shows that, the number of female teen smoking rose from 4% to 8%. Overall the study found nearly one in five teens smokes.

Arrivederci!
